2025 Childers Showgirl a winner in Gayndah

2025 Childers Showgirl Meg Williams won the sub-chamber finals in Gayndah over the weekend and is now heading to the state finals in Brisbane.
2025 Childers Showgirl, Meg Williams, will now be competing in the state finals after winning the sub-chamber finals in Gayndah.

The Isis District Pastoral Agricultural and Industrial Society have announced that the 2025 Childers Showgirl Meg Williams won the sub-chamber finals in Gayndah over the weekend.

This is a remarkable achievement for Meg, and we are incredibly proud of her.

Meg will be heading off to the Brisbane exhibition to compete in the state finals, this is a significant milestone for us, as we have not had a finalist since 2012.

We are all rooting for Meg and are confident that she will represent us brilliantly.

In addition to her accomplishments as a Showgirl, Meg works as a disability support worker and is studying primary school teaching.

Meg’s dedication and hard work in both her professional and academic pursuits are truly admirable.

Below are some of Meg’s responses when asked about this achievement and what it meant to her.

What motivated you to pursue this achievement and how did you get started?

I had wanted to give showgirl a go for a couple of years as it always interested me.

At the start of the year I reached out to my local show society to say I was interested and it went from there.

Were there any challenges you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?

The showgirl competition requires you to get out of your comfort zone and the competition was quite daunting on the weekend.

I didn’t overthink too much and just gave it the best I had.

How did the support of your community contribute to your success?

It helped a lot, I knew I had a fair few people at home rooting for me and I wanted to make our little town seen.

Can you share any memorable moments or highlights from your journey towards this achievement?

Our local show was a fantastic day.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and catching up with people I already knew but also seeing the horse, cattle and word chopping competitors compete and the community getting around it.

Also, seeing everyone’s hard work in the pavilion, it displayed how great and talented our community is.

What are your future plans now that you’ve achieved this milestone?

The next stage is the Ekka which I am very excited about.

I won’t only be representing Isis District (Childers Show Society) but the Burnett region which I feel honoured to do so.

I’m going to give it the best I have but also take in the wonderful opportunity and be proud of how far I have already come.

  1. Congratulations Meg, I hope you do well in Brisbane also. I only wish we would stop using ‘American Slang’ and stick with our own Aussie terminology – ‘Cheering for’ rather than ‘Rooting for’ sounds way better. Maybe I’m just ‘old school’, but it sounds a whole lot more wholesome.
