The Elliott Heads Local Area Plan and supporting minor amendment to the Bundaberg Regional Council Planning Scheme 2015 has been adopted following the incorporation of community feedback.
The purpose and general effect of this planning scheme policy is to provide additional guidance for future urban development on emerging community land at Elliott Heads, being land broadly bounded by Elliott Heads Road, Atkinsons Road, Shine Street, Welch Street, Moore Street, Saunders Street and the Elliott River foreshore.
The planning scheme policy provides a more detailed local planning framework for the Elliott Heads local plan area to support planning and development assessment policies already established within the Central coastal urban growth area local plan of the Planning Scheme.
It is anticipated that the further local planning outcomes within the planning scheme policy will ultimately be incorporated within the Planning Scheme and Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP) through later planning scheme amendments.
Divisional representative Councillor Carmen McEneany said Council had made a number of changes to the proposed Local Area Plan that went out for community consultation as a result of public feedback.
“Council received 27 submissions during the consultation period on a range of topics from the impacts of development, community infrastructure and tourism to amenity, water quality and transport networks,” Cr McEneany said.
“Every single matter raised within the submissions was considered and minor changes were made to the final Elliott Heads Local Area Plan that was adopted as a result.
“It is so valuable to gain this community input and have the Local Area Plan in place to provide certainty for the future of Elliott Heads for developers and residents alike.
“The Elliott Heads Local Area Plan ensures growth and development can take place in a sustainable and logical manner with the appropriate infrastructure and services in place while protecting the area’s existing features and the environment.”
The Elliott Heads Local Area Plan planning scheme policy and associated amendment take effect on 1 August 2025.
The planning scheme policy and minor amendment will be available from Friday 1 August, for inspection and purchase at Council’s Development counter at the Auswide Building, Level 6, 16 – 20 Barolin Street, Bundaberg, and for viewing and download on Council’s website at www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au.
