Public notice – Update: hazardous materials, Pyefinch Boulevard

Bundaberg Regional Council has completed asbestos removal works at Pyefinch Boulevard after fragments were discovered at the site late last year.

Exclusion fencing was installed around the affected area at the front of the site (corner of FE Walker Street and Pyefinch Boulevard) to restrict public access while testing, treatment methodologies developed and remediation works were undertaken.

Air monitoring, site capping and remediation works have now been completed.

A final inspection by an independent occupational hygienist has confirmed that no asbestos remains on site and a clearance certificate has been to allow access to these areas.

It is important to note in the area closest to FE Walker St, of the multiple fragments (3) discovered during the investigation, only one was confirmed to contain asbestos.

Bundaberg Regional Council will continue to monitor the area as part of its ongoing site management.

A secondary site at the rear of the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre (adjoining the car park and Saltwater Creek), is continuing to be investigated and Council is planning to adopt a similar process.
