Bundaberg’s Josh Furnish has been recognised at this year’s Australian Wedding Industry Awards.
Below are some insights from Josh about his accomplishment.
Can you tell us about the achievement you recently received and what it means to you?
I was recently awarded #2 Highly Commended Wedding Videographer for the Wide Bay and Burnett region at the 2025 Australian Wedding Industry Awards.
This recognition means the world to me.
It’s a reflection of the love and trust couples place in me to capture one of the most important days of their lives.
As a solo creative based in Bundaberg, being acknowledged alongside other talented professionals across the state feels incredibly humbling and encouraging.
What motivated you to pursue this achievement and how did you get started in this industry?
I first got into videography while working for a dental clinic for many years.
Afterwards, I transitioned to working at Widebayitv.com, which gave me a lot of knowledge about operating cameras in different scenario’s.
For instance being able to multi switch up to six cameras at one time.
It also gave me the ability to share a stage with famous singers, like Iva Davies from Ice House during Lighthouse Country and Rock.
I have also worked closely with Phillip Harris who produced in the past many famous TV shows including, River to Reef.
My passion for capturing meaningful moments led me to specialise in weddings, where I can create lasting memories for couples.
Were there any challenges you faced along the way and how did you overcome them?
Definitely – one of the biggest challenges has been managing everything on my own.
As a freelancer, you wear all the hats: filming, editing, marketing, admin.
Learning to balance creativity with the practical side of running a business has been a constant growth process.
I’ve overcome these challenges by staying organised, always learning, and listening to client feedback to improve.
How did the support of your community contribute to your success?
The support from the local community has been instrumental.
Word of mouth, kind reviews and recommendations from past couples have helped my business grow organically.
Bundaberg couples have been so supportive and trusting, and I truly believe that without this local encouragement, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What skills or lessons did you learn during the process that you will carry forward?
Patience, adaptability, and the importance of genuine connection are some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned.
Each wedding is unique, and learning to approach every project with care, empathy, and attention to detail has been key to delivering films couples truly treasure.
How has receiving this achievement changed your perspective on your work or goals?
This recognition has reaffirmed that I’m on the right path and has inspired me to keep pushing myself creatively.
It’s encouraged me to think bigger—to continue evolving my style, invest in new gear, and one day mentor up-and-coming videographers in the region.
What role do you think local initiatives play in helping individuals achieve their personal or professional goals?
Local initiatives like Bundaberg Now and regional awards give creatives a platform to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
These opportunities are especially important in smaller communities, where recognition and exposure can be harder to come by.
They help build confidence and inspire others to follow their passion.
Can you share any memorable moments or highlights from your journey towards this achievement?
One of the most memorable moments for me was filming a wedding where the couple included a tribute to a loved one who had passed.
Capturing that emotion and knowing I was preserving a part of their story that mattered so deeply reminded me why I do this work.
Moments like that fuel my passion.
What advice would you give to others in the community who aspire to reach similar goals?
Start where you are, with what you have.
Be consistent, be patient, and stay true to your unique voice.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they’re part of the journey.
And most importantly, build genuine relationships with the people you serve.
That connection is what makes your work meaningful.
What are your future plans now that you’ve achieved this milestone? Are there other goals you are excited to pursue?
This milestone has inspired me to aim even higher.
I’m planning to expand my services, collaborate with other local creatives, and continue refining my craft.
I’d also love to work on destination weddings and explore offering elopement films and storytelling-based content outside of weddings.
I have a skilled wedding photographer who I have invited to the team, KC Klintstrom Photography, to give wedding couples the ultimate experience in both worlds.
