Buss Park beautification underway

Bundaberg Regional Council crews are currently carrying out essential lawn care works to improve the health, appearance and resilience of the turf, with the area expected to look a little worse for wear before things improve.

The grass will be greener on the other side of lawn maintenance works currently being undertaken in Buss Park, with a series of turf treatments underway to rejuvenate the popular public space ahead of summer.

Bundaberg Regional Council crews are currently carrying out essential lawn care works to improve the health, appearance and resilience of the turf, with the area expected to look a little worse for wear before things improve.

The process involves a three-stage renovation program designed to reduce soil compaction, assist aeration and address drainage issues.
Council is asking the community to keep clear of the grass in Buss Park during the works, which will continue over the next few days.

For those passionate about their own patch of green, Council’s lawn care experts share top tips to help create the perfect back or front yard oasis:

  • Aeration can be done at home using a garden fork. For best results, ensure soil moisture is balanced (not too dry or too wet) and penetrate 4–6 cm to reach the active root zone.
  • Watering is crucial after turf renovation to aid recovery and help fertilisers deliver nutrients effectively.
  • Controlled Release Fertilisers (CRF) are ideal during the growing season, offering consistent nutrition with minimal environmental impact compared to synthetic options.
  • Organic fertilisers, such as certified manure-based products, are also suitable but may vary in nutrient content and produce strong odours.
