A new program full of intriguing exhibitions and events at Bundaberg Regional Galleries is out now, just in time for summer.
As temperatures warm up, make plans to cool down at the gallery, with ‘A Life in Art’ on at Childers Arts Space from 30 October and four new exhibitions opening at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery on 14 November.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Cr John Learmonth said ‘A Life in Art’ was a celebration of one of the region’s most loved artists.
“This new exhibition at Childers Arts Space honours the lifelong dedication to the arts of Apple Tree Creek artist Alice McLaughlin,” Cr Learmonth said.
“Alice was the driving force behind the formation of the Childers Visual Arts Group, which has met regularly at her home where members have shared their creative energies for over twenty years.
“This retrospective exhibition chronicles her life story through the artwork she created along the way, with the colour palette shifting from the reds of Western Queensland to the blues and greens of the coast.
“Throughout her life, Alice has championed the importance of creative endeavours, and this exhibition recognises her role as an artist and, importantly, as an educator.”
Cr Learmonth said fans of local art and crafts could take home their own unique item at the galleries’ Artisan Twilight Christmas Markets on Thursday 4 December.
“I know the community looks forward to the Christmas Markets in Gallery Park each year to pick up gifts for family and friends, or something special for themself,” he said.
“Timed to coincide with the Pageant of Lights, it’s a wonderful night for the community to come together and enjoy what makes our region great.”
Covering events from November through to February, Cr Learmonth said the Summer Program had a lot to interest audiences all season long.
“There’s so much to see and do at the gallery, from storybooks come to life in ‘The Crackle’, hands-on activities and self-guided adventures, fascinating talks with artists and a thought-provoking exhibition on our feline friends,” he said.
“I encourage everyone to dive into the digital program online and get their creative fix at Bundaberg Regional Galleries this summer.”
