Unfinished art projects given second chance

A collaborative community art project is giving unfinished art projects a second chance to fulfil their creative potential.

UFO: UnFinished Objects invites participants to contribute unfinished creative works, exchange them with others and complete a different object.

Organised by Bundaberg Regional Galleries and facilitated by artist Larissa Dabrowski, the project encourages experimentation, skill-sharing and creative connection.

The program will include drop-in sessions at Gin Gin Community Hub where participants can share their objects and ideas.

Larissa said everyone was welcome to get involved, and participants could contribute unfinished objects in any creative form that they were willing to swap with others, subject to size constraints.

“These sessions are a chance for participants to use the Swap Station to exchange their UFO for a new one, work on their new UFO, share ideas and skills and get crafting!” Larissa said.

“Everyoneis welcome – this is a free program, open to all ages and no crafting or arts experience is required.

“Each session will have themed taster tables where participants can try new materials and techniques if they’d like.

“For those who can’t make the Create Date sessions, fear not!!

“There will be a Swap Station, complete with swap shop and materials pot set up near the HH Innes Room that people can access anytime during the Hub’s opening hours starting Monday 2 March.”

The project culminates in a group exhibition and Meet the Maker event at Gin Gin Community Hub to celebrate the participants’ shared creative experience.

“Shortly after the final Create Date session, we’re going to have a Meet the Maker gathering,” Larissa said.

“This is an opportunity for participants to connect with other creatives and meet the person who finished their project.

“When participants drop off their UFO, and pick up a new project, we ask them to be open to the creative expression of others – your piece might be finished traditionally, or it could be an “out of this world” transformation!”

Contributed unfinished projects should be no larger than 30 x 30 cm and 2.5 kg in weight and should not include irreplaceable items.
