Ready to enjoy a creative glow-up? Bundaberg Regional Galleries’ Autumn program has arrived, glowing with creativity, storytelling and opportunities to get arty.

Featuring new exhibitions, artist talks, youth programs and community arts initiatives, this season’s program has something for every art lover.

Exhibitions currently on at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery include ‘Looking Out Looking In: Exploring the Self-Portrait’ on tour from the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, ‘Biomorphism’ by artist Penny Bennett and ‘Home Bodies’ from Bundaberg-born artist Ana Daniels.

At Childers Arts Space, ‘The Unrequited Dream’ from artists Hannah Stanton, Kaz Stanton and Jacob Bunt displays printmaking, photography and sculpture that reflects the artists’ experiences of suburban life in Queensland.

Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the Autumn exhibition program was complemented by an engaging event schedule.

“This autumn at the Galleries we are excited to introduce some new events alongside popular returning favourites,” Cr Learmonth said.

“At Gin Gin, local artist Larissa Dabrowski will be running the UFO: UnFinished Objects collaborative community project, inviting participants to contribute unfinished creative works and exchange them with others to complete a different project.

“It’s a fun way to get involved in art-making, along with sharing skills and creative ideas across the community.

“We also have some great Youth Week activities in April in which 12 to 18 year-olds can work with exhibiting artists to create their own artworks.

“In May, the Artisan Twilight Markets will return, which is always a great night for meeting local makers and picking up unique gifts for Mother’s Day.”

Cr Learmonth said arts programming brought vibrancy and interest to the Bundaberg CBD and was an important factor in the area’s revitalisation.

“Council is committed to encouraging safe and enjoyable CBD visitation and offering a range of cultural and arts experiences in our venues is one way of doing this,” he said.

“On select Friday nights throughout the season, the Gallery will host artist-led sessions for people to try their hand at different art techniques in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

“We are also launching the Open Space pop-up exhibition program, which will give five local artists or community groups the opportunity to showcase their work in the Bundaberg School of Arts.

“Through programs like these, Council is making a positive contribution to changing the way residents and visitors experience our town centre.”
