Asking the question and community connection for R U OK? Day

0

Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging meaningful connection across the community with a series of free events to mark R U OK? Day on Thursday 10 September.

R U OK? Day is a national day of action inspiring people to check in with those around them and offer support to those who may be struggling.

The annual initiative aims to spark conversations about mental health by simply asking, ‘Are you ok?’

Community members are invited to attend free activities held in Bundaberg, Childers and Gin Gin.

Bundaberg

Council’s Community Development team will host a free community activation in the CBD Pavilion from 10 am to 2 pm with a range of wellbeing activities and support services available.

The event will provide a safe and welcoming space to learn and strengthen social connections where visitors can play board games, enjoy rock painting or just relax on bean bags and enjoy the music.

Support services available on the day will include Headspace, Impact Community Services, Richmond Fellowship Queensland and Queensland Health – The Light House.

This event is part of Council’s Safe Spaces, Thriving Places initiative.

Childers

Join the team from the Childers Neighbourhood Centre in Millennium Park to relax and play some large outdoor games from 11.30 am.

Visitors will also be treated to a delicious cupcake provided by students from Isis High School.

Gin Gin

The Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre will be hosting a Cake and Chat event in Kolan Community Park from 9 am to 12 pm.

The team will be on hand to chat about how to check in with your family, friends and work colleagues and information on outreach services will also be available.
