Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging residents to remain vigilant and prepare for bushfires as activity increases across the region.
As the fire season ramps up Council is working closely with the Queensland Fire Department (QFD), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) and other emergency services and relevant stakeholders to support community safety.
Recent fires, including activity in the Doughboy area, are a timely reminder of how quickly conditions can change and the importance of being prepared.
All Permits to Light Fire in the Bundaberg and North Burnett areas have been suspended from 10 to 16 September 2026.
During this period, existing permits cannot be used and no new permits will be issued.
Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said residents should use the current period of heightened fire activity as a prompt to prepare.
“Now is the time for residents to take action,” she said.
“We strongly encourage everyone to review their bushfire survival plan, prepare their property and make sure they know what they will do if a bushfire threatens their home or community.
“Conditions can change very quickly and being prepared before an emergency occurs can make a significant difference.”
Specialist aerial firefighting resources are currently positioned at Bundaberg Airport, including the Q400 Large Air Tanker and Black Hawk helicopters, providing additional firefighting capability to support operations when required.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official emergency warnings and current incident information through emergency service channels, including the Queensland Fire Department Facebook page and website.
Now is the time to:
- Review your bushfire survival plan.
- Prepare your property and clear potential fuel sources around your home.
- Ensure you know where you will go and what you will take if you need to leave.
- Make plans for pets, livestock and other animals.
- Stay informed and monitor official emergency warnings and advice.
- Follow directions from emergency services if a bushfire threatens your area.
Residents are also encouraged to regularly check Bundaberg Regional Council’s Disaster Dashboard at disaster.bundaberg.qld.gov.au for the latest local emergency information, including warnings, road closures, weather updates and other important disaster-related information.
