Progress on the rehabilitation of the Moore Park Beach Wetlands Boardwalk will soon get underway, with Bundaberg Regional Council preparing to commence the first stage of works to restore the much-loved community asset.
The boardwalk, which links Egret Lane and Orchid Drive and circles the Moore Park Beach lagoon, has remained closed since February 2025 after inspections identified significant structural concerns due to its deteriorated condition.
Work will begin this week and will involve the removal of sections of the boardwalk to allow engineers to undertake detailed investigations into the extent of repairs required.
These investigations will identify which components need to be replaced before materials are ordered and the necessary permits and approvals are secured for the final rehabilitation works.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the investigation works were a critical step towards safely reopening the boardwalk for the community.
“The Moore Park Beach Wetlands Boardwalk is a much-loved community asset and we know many residents and visitors have been eager to see progress towards its reopening,” she said.
“While the boardwalk has been closed for an extended period, safety has remained Council’s highest priority.
“These investigation works will provide the detailed information needed to deliver the right long-term solution rather than temporary repairs.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work through this process.”
