The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre is expected to reopen to the community tomorrow after a temporary closure caused by a programming fault.
Electrical system testing works that were undertaken on site on Monday 16 February caused a system error which disrupted the facility’s water treatment process.
The state-of-the-art facility has a complex chemical dosing process that efficiently balances the water treatment to ensure it remains at safe levels.
As a result of the fault, the control system software reset itself to an alternative setting overriding the facilities operating system and requiring reconfiguration on site.
The alternative program settings have now been removed, preventing future recurrence.
System experts travelled from Melbourne to manage the process.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said, as a new facility, the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre remained within its warranty period meaning the cost impact of teething problems were not borne by ratepayers.
“The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre was a complex, multi-million-dollar construction project and because of this we can expect some initial challenges,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Our facility managers are doing a fantastic job and, while we understand that this temporary closure will cause some inconvenience for locals, we hope we have your understanding during the initial days of this state-of-the-art facility.
“The good news for our community is we are still in what is called a defect liability period which essentially means the aquatic centre remains under warranty for the first year.
“This is industry standard and allows us, like the owners of any new building, to identify any initial issues that need to be addressed post-construction.”
The Bundaberg Aquatic Centre is expected to be open tomorrow, after all system corrections and checks have taken place.
Updates will be provided to the community should there be any further delays.
I see council dont want the truth to be posted going by my last comment not going through. Thats ok, now it will be going on social media platforms instead and cc’d to major news outlets to make everyone privy to your two tiered tyranny when it comes to who is camping on the streets in Bundaberg and who gets threatened with massive fines and who doesnt. I understand this publication is the propagander arm of BRC but the mainstream arent. I am also in the process of making a short doco about the methods and language used by the council and mayor towards the less fortunate and vulnerable, everything in the public realm of course, thats a hobby of mine, filmed interviews with those who are struggling and making movies about their plights against those who couldnt care less and bringing it to the attention of those ratepayers who normally wouldnt have a clue about what is going on in the background. It doesnt take much to have just a little human compassion.
