A remarkable piece of Bundaberg’s maritime history is now on display at the Bundaberg Regional Council Administration Building.
This lighthouse lens once guided ships safely along our coastline and forms part of the story of the Historic Burnett Heads Lighthouse, which, for 99 years from 1873 to 1972, played an important role in helping ships, passengers and cargo safely navigate to the Port of Bundaberg.
The historic lighthouse still stands at Burnett Heads today thanks to the efforts of community groups and volunteers who worked to preserve it for future generations when it was replaced by a new lighthouse in 1972.
Now, you can view this impressive lighthouse lens up close in our administration building foyer and take a moment to connect with an important chapter of our region’s history.
Drop in and see it for yourself!
