Bundaberg local from Doughboy, and self-proclaimed grazi-her, Alison Gray, will feature in an Easter TV special which will be broadcast across the Nine Network over the Easter long weekend.

Alison, and her husband John, have been living in Doughboy, for the past 27 years, and
together manage a 7000-acre farm with cattle, dogs, horses, chickens, and the list goes on.

In the TV special, Alison talks about what it is like to live in a remote part of Queensland, explains life on the farm and talks about the isolation such a lifestyle can bring.

She takes viewers on a journey through a typical day – which includes starting with a cup of tea, turning the radio on, breaking in horses, training dogs to muster, feeding the chickens and taking time out to enjoy the privilege it is to call rural Queensland home.

When her husband is away for work, Alison keeps the farm ticking with the radio on for company, listening to a mix of music and talk programming on Vision radio.

In this TV documentary and with the help of her husband John and farmhand Jemima, Alison talks us through the process of breaking in a horse, shows how she trains her dogs, and musters their herd of cattle around the farm.

“The closest city is Bundaberg, so for us, that’s one-and-a-quarter hours driving … I like the isolation, but I also am a social person … I have the radio on most of the time – on my phone,” she said.

“My favourite program is Breakfast with Fel and Andy, and I just have it on in the background, and it helps, it encourages me – lifts my spirits up.”

At 76 years of age, Alison is no stranger to long days and hard work, and is as active as ever.

“The farm keeps you young,” she said.

“There is always something to do.

“You are always moving and you just need to jump in and get the jobs done.”

Alison will feature in an Easter TV special of Helping Hands – a weekly TV show across the Nine Network that celebrates the people who make the world a better place.
