District Sides Championships

The Bowls Queensland District Sides Championships were held at the Sunshine Coast last week (6-10 May). Burnett had four players representing the Bundaberg District at this event.

Phoebie Russell & Annette Goldsworthy were selected in the Ladies team, while Cameron Walker & Keith Whalley were selected in the Bundaberg Men’s Side.

The Bundaberg sides performed well in the first three qualifying days where they both qualified to play in the Division 2 finals on Saturday.

In the Finals the Ladies defeated Mackay District, however they lost to the eventual winners Sunshine Coast and to the Runner up Tropical Far North Queensland to finish third in their division.

Good effort to finish seventh out of the 20 Districts that contested the Championships.

The Men’s team were successful in winning Division 2 by defeating two strong Brisbane Districts namely Gateway & Cunningham.

Although losing to Fraser Coast, Bundaberg’s winning margins were big enough to secure the Flag.

Congratulations to Annette, Phoebie, Cameron and Keith for representing Burnett and the Bundaberg District. Well done!
