Guests at this year’s Mayor’s Ball have given generously to boost the fundraising tally of the annual Mayor’s Christmas Appeal by over $30,000.
The funds were raised at the Taste Bundaberg Festival gala event through raffles and auctions of donated prizes from local businesses and individuals.
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the night was a resounding success with over 340 people attending.
“I am just blown away by the generosity of all who contributed to the fundraising efforts,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“From the prize donors to those who bought raffle tickets or bid on auction items, the kind-hearted nature of the Bundaberg Region community was evident.
“Additionally, my sincere thanks to the wonderful sponsors that came on board to make the event extra special.
“As the major fundraising event for the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, the ball was more than a great night out, it was a chance to get together and show we care.”
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal sees Bundaberg Regional Council join forces with local charity groups to provide hampers and vouchers for local families and individuals in need at Christmas.
Mayor Blackburn said the funds raised at ball would have a direct positive impact for the people in the community who needed help to make Christmas special.
“The funds raised at the ball will do so much good in the community, providing food hampers and vouchers for around 300 families,” she said.
“As we know, Christmas can be a difficult time for some in our community and being able to give those little extras to make Christmas brighter can make all the difference.
“There’s still time to get involved with the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal through donations or sponsorship or buying a Christmas bauble later in the year.”
