Filipino association to celebrate 43 years

Food, family and fun are on the menu as the Bundaberg and District Filipino Association celebrates 43 years of community spirit, with support from Bundaberg Regional Council.

The Bundaberg and District Filipino Association Inc. (BDAFAI) is getting ready for another year of food, family and fun at their 2027 anniversary celebration.

The popular annual event will mark 43 years of community spirit, with funding support from Bundaberg Regional Council.

BDAFAI Secretary Valda McLeod said the group was grateful for the support through the Council’s Micro Grant Program.

“As with any organisation that regularly hosts public events, the cost of insurance to keep going can be quite a lot so there is much gratitude to sponsors that assist,” Valda said.

“The event not only represents the years the group has been together but is also a celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

“It’s a really great night to immerse yourself in the culture and celebrate with a myriad of entertainment whilst making sure guests are happy and eating of course.”

Val said the group enjoyed not only hosting its own events but participating in other community events as well.

“BDAFAI usually celebrates Valentines Day, Mother’s Day and hold a Christmas gathering also, these kinds of public events are always open to anyone who may wish to come along,” Valda said.

“This community gets involved in the Chinese New Year celebrations, multicultural sports days… and the Pageant of Lights which is a lovely way to showcase to locals and visitors that we are a multicultural group which welcomes people with open arms.”

She said anyone and everyone was welcome to join the BDAFAI and see what community was all about.

“To anyone thinking about joining this group, my advice is jump straight in, there are no safer hands than the members in this organisation, each individual so warm, welcoming and happy to share and help,” she said.

“It seems a smile, a love for food, laughter and music are at the heart of everyone here, with a strong sense of family, community and helping others.

“So if this resonates with anyone out there, they only need to follow the Filipinos – they will help you join in on all the fun!”
