The auditorium may be closed for major renovations but that won’t stop The Playhouse Theatre from bringing top quality (and lots of fun) live theatre to Bundaberg.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be on from August 21 to 30 in the Clubroom (at the back of the Playhouse Theatre).
The musical with a difference (and with audience participation) was conceived by Rebecca Feldman, with music and lyrics by William Fin and book by Rachel Sheinkin.
It is directed by husband and wife team Chris and Belinda Arnold.
Chris Arnold said the show features some great music.
“The music is both hilarious and touching, with songs such as “I’m Not That Smart”, “My Friend the Dictionary” and “Magic Foot” which will have audience members giggling and tapping their toes with the infectious beat,” Chris said.
Belinda Arnold said there will be a mix of experienced Playhouse actors and new faces.
“We’re delighted to have Jacob Treloar, Stella Hutchins, Alana Clark, Brayden Rewald, Thomas Anderson, Nikki Sorbello, Jackson Millar and Joseph Mulkearns on stage again, along with Deearna Powell, Sarah Hodgetts, Alicia Hurkmans and Emerson Taylor,” Belinda said.
“They are all doing a brilliant job and are ready to bring this fun and heartfelt show to the Clubroom space at the Playhouse”.
There will be 100 seats for each show, with no allocated seating and various table configurations. Patrons are invited to bring along cold platters…and share the food and laughs with others at their table.
“Patrons also have the chance to be part of the show, so we encourage people to brush up on their spelling, to go up against the cast,” Chris said.
“Keep a lookout on our social media to fill out the online form to be part of the fun…if you dare!,” Belinda said.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is extra to the subscription season, with all tickets $20.
Performance dates are on 21, 22, 28, 29 and 30 August, starting at 7.30 pm.
Bookings open for Subscribers Saturday 2 August at 10 am, with General Bookings opening Sunday 3 August at 10 am.
