The Bundaberg Quilters Inc (BQI) invites the community to enjoy their upcoming exhibition, A Wonderland of Quilts, starting from Thursday, 7 August.

From traditional to hand embroidered, there will be plenty to see as members of the BQI share their talents and skills.

Find out more about the exhibition below.

What are the main activities or highlights attendees can look forward to?

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase everything they need for sewing, quilting and more, with traders on site selling fabric, haberdashery, paint dyes, kits and patterns.

Our members will have a BQI Market Stall running, always an exhibition favourite, and great opportunity to purchase reasonably priced handmade items ranging from purses to bags and everything in between.

Attendees will be able to vote for the daily ‘Viewer’s Choice’ which is a fabric themed challenge that is part of ‘The Mad Hatters Tea Party’ the BQI organises.

It involves some very ‘competitive’ and friendly creativity amongst our members, but it’s up to the visitors to cast their vote.

A unique variety of workshops will be offered over the exhibition dates, along with regular trader demonstrations.

Volunteer BQI members are also available for a chat and happy to answer any questions about ‘all things fabric and quilting’.

The 2025 Charity Quilt has been donated to The Anglican Soup Kitchen, Bundaberg.

This stunning quilt was designed and quilted over 8 months by a small team of highly skilled BQI member volunteers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view the ‘Circle of Hope ‘ quilt during our 3 day exhibition and purchase raffle tickets $2 each.

All proceeds will greatly assist the Anglican Church to continue with their much-needed charitable programs in our community.

How can community members get involved or support the event?

The exhibition is a unique opportunity for the community to marvel at the amazing talents of our members.

Community members can support our event by following Bundaberg Quilters Inc on Facebook and sharing our flyers on their social media platforms.

We would be thrilled to welcome record numbers of visitors through the doors of the Multiplex Centre.

What is the history of this event and how has it evolved?

BQI started as a small group of quilting enthusiasts in 1987 and small quilt shows were held at the Civic Centre for many years.

As quilting has seen a big revival in recent years, and the increase of talented members, we’ve had to start exhibiting at a larger venue such as the Bundaberg Multiplex.

A larger space means we can exhibit more quilts and accommodate the increasing visitor numbers to our event.

It seems to get bigger and better every biennial year.

How do you hope attendees will feel after participating in this event?

Hopefully, they will feel inspired to think about joining BQI, enrol in our beginner courses and learn the basic skills to get started on the very addictive hobby of patchwork and quilting.

At BQI, we have a small team of dedicated volunteers who are passionate about our “Comfort Quilt “program.

We make and donate a large quantity of quilts to people in need in our community.

Quilts for the NICU, aged care settings, cancer care – we donate comfort quilts where they are needed.
