The Be Active Be Alive pools program has kicked off across the region to get the community moving, stretching and splashing.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s free fitness program has seen a wide-range of indoor and outdoor activities on offer with water-based classes now running until 14 December.
Community Liveability, Sport and Recreation portfolio spokesperson Councillor Carmen McEneany said the pools program was a highlight of the Be Active Be Alive initiative.
“Aqua aerobics is a fantastic low-impact workout that’s gentle on joints but still delivers a great cardio and resistance session,” Cr McEneany said.
“It’s ideal for older adults, beginners or anyone looking to mix up their fitness routine in a fun and social environment.”
Classes will run at four participating pools across the region including:
- Norville Park Pool, Bundaberg
- Kepnock SHS Pool, Bundaberg
- Gin Gin Swimming Pool, Gin Gin
- Isis War Memorial Pool, Childers
“We’re proud to offer a variety of locations and class times to suit different lifestyles and communities,” Cr McEneany said.
“Whether you’re in Childers, Gin Gin or Bundaberg, there’s a pool near you and a class that fits your schedule.”
Find connection and confidence in the water
Donna Keech of DNA Aquatics has been part of the Be Active Be Alive program since 2015 and said the classes at Kepnock pool are designed to be both achievable and enjoyable for all fitness levels.
“My classes are all about movement, music and fun!” Donna said.
“I love creating sessions that challenge people without them even realising how hard they’re working because they’re too busy enjoying themselves.
“We mix things up with different formats, from high-energy cardio to strength, balance and core work – all supported by the water’s natural resistance.”

Donna said watching people leave class smiling, laughing and proud of themselves is the best part.
“The Be Active Be Alive program is such a gift to our community.
“It gives everyone a chance to have a go, meet new people and experience the joy of movement in a safe and welcoming environment.
“I’m so grateful to have been part of it for so many years… it’s not just exercise, it’s connection and confidence wrapped up in fun,” she said.
Please note: while pool fitness classes are free, standard pool entry fees apply upon arrival.
