The Bundaberg Library has recently been added to the list of sites where Justice of the Peace (JP) services are available in the region.
JP services are now offered at the Bundaberg Library on 49 Woondooma Street on Thursdays from 1 to 3 pm and Saturdays from 9 to 11 am.
Chairman of the Bundaberg JP Support Group and JP Sites Coordinator Russell Lyons said, while the JP service had been operating in Bundaberg for almost 20 years, the Bundaberg Library made a valuable new addition to the sites available.
“We believe the relocation of our JP services to the town library has been a very positive move and we are receiving very good, positive feedback from our clients,” Russell said.
“The use of the library, being in the centre of town, is a very comfortable location with excellent services provided, making it very user-friendly for the public and with good car parking too.
“The availability on Saturday mornings is also a positive.”
Russell said the group was particularly grateful for the support from Bundaberg Regional Council and the library staff.
“To have the support of the Bundaberg Regional Council library facility and staff means a lot and it’s a great asset to all our JPs and the service we provide to our community,” he said.
“Our much-needed volunteer services are provided free of cost to all persons, which might otherwise prove quite costly to members of the public if they were forced to pay for legal services.”
Bundaberg Region JP services
Queensland JPs are volunteers who undertake responsibilities like signing documents that require a qualified witness and handling minor court matters.
JP services are provided at various locations throughout the Bundaberg Region, with the Bundaberg Library being one of the seven signing sites now managed.
JP services are also offered at the Childers Library every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9.30 to 11.30 am and at the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3 pm.
