Bundaberg Regional Council’s connection to local business has been strengthened with the introduction of a new role focused on collaboration and liaison with the business community.
New Business Liaison Officer Yvette Litkie has joined Council’s Economic Development team, tasked with supporting sustainable, long‑term growth across the region.
Yvette said she was looking forward to getting out and about in the local business community.
“I will be working closely with the region’s Chambers of Commerce, industry groups and small business operators, listening and learning about what matters to them,” Yvette said.
“I’ll be building upon Council’s previous work in this area, helping to advance the Small Business Friendly framework and strengthen networks.
“Our ultimate aim is to help foster and support a more resilient and connected business community.”
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said the Business Liaison Officer role would also play a key part in Council’s Safe Spaces, Thriving Places initiative aimed at reclaiming the vibrancy of the Bundaberg CBD.
“At the heart of Council’s Safe Spaces, Thriving Places project is maintaining a welcoming and economically strong city centre,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“Achieving our goals will require a whole-of-community approach and our CBD traders are a key part of that.
“To inform Council’s actions in this space this role will support the close working relationship between Council and local businesses.”
Yvette said Council had already started to directly engage local businesses in the Bundaberg CBD to share their experiences and ideas on improving the area.
“Coming up we have a traders’ forum that will provide a platform for open discussion on matters relevant to CBD operators.
“Improving the CBD is a shared responsibility across agencies and operators, and I’m eager to help facilitate those broader discussions and developments.”
