The Bundaberg Region will celebrate Harmony Week with activities hosted by the Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centres.

Harmony Week runs from 16 to 22 March across Australia and promotes cultural diversity, inclusivity and respect for all, with Harmony Day officially celebrated on 21 March.

Bundaberg Regional Council Community Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Councillor Tracey McPhee said both the Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centres would be marking the initiative.

“Harmony Week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many cultures and backgrounds that enrich the Bundaberg Region,” said Cr McPhee.

“In Childers, the neighbourhood centre will work in collaboration with the Childers Branch of National Seniors Australia, Howard U3A and the Childers Multicultural Friendship Group to host a Harmony Day gathering at the Isis Club.

“This vibrant event will recognise the different cultures that make up our region through food, stories, displays and shared experiences.

“Those in Gin Gin can celebrate Harmony Week by visiting the neighbourhood centre for a free art and craft activity designed to encourage conversations around respect, understanding and a sense of belonging.

“And of course, in the spirit of Harmony Day, everyone is welcome to join in.”
