Safer, smoother coastal path on the way

Spanning Dryden Street to McGarry Way along Sea Esplanade in Burnett Heads, the existing pathway will be upgraded to a 3 m width.

A 1.4 km section of coastal pathway will be renewed and widened to improve safety, accessibility and user experience for the community.

The work comes after the section was identified as being in need of repair due to deterioration and major cracking.

Bundaberg Regional Council Roads and Infrastructure (Urban) portfolio spokesperson Cr Larine Statham-Blair said the project would deliver a more durable and future-ready coastal link.

“This upgrade will provide a safer, smoother and wider pathway for pedestrians, cyclists, prams, wheelchair users and more,” she said.

“By addressing some underlying ground conditions as part of these works, we’re ensuring the renewed pathway will stand the test of time and continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.”

The project is fully funded through the Works for Queensland program.

Work is scheduled to commence in early March 2026.

During the works, the pathway and Sea Esplanade Park area will be fully closed.

Appropriate signage will be in place to inform pathway users of the closure.

Council appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation during construction.

“We understand that temporary closures can be inconvenient, but these improvements are an investment in the long-term quality and accessibility of our coastal infrastructure,” Cr Statham-Blair said.

“We thank the community in advance for their understanding while we deliver this important upgrade.”

  1. Hi guys just wondering when and if walking path in front of the drift over 55 complex will be done connecting bargara headlands to existing path which finished at little rotunda

  2. Please seal the 400m of dirt pathway between the Innes Park North rotunda and the whale stones. This pathway is used by many people but it is rough, rocky and presents a trip hazard for older people. This is more important then the other pathway you want to refo

  3. perhaps they should have done the job right in the first place, once again the council creating jobs for themselves , another example of how councils waste rate payers money

  4. Beats me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the footway, pathway or have our colonial victorian migrants been complaining again?

  5. North Bundaberg State High and primary school students have been dodging traffic, construction machines and farm tractors for years just to get to school and back. Especially on Loeskow Street with no footpaths and a street with sides so steep that it’s like walking on a berm. The children deserve better from this money hungry council.
