
The region has been stretching, splashing, dancing and serving up a storm as Bundaberg Regional Council’s Be Active Be Alive program wrapped up a hugely successful first round.
Held over eight weeks, more than with 960 participants joined in on 89 free fitness sessions across Bundaberg, Childers, Gin Gin, Bargara, Burnett Heads, Elliott Heads and Woodgate.
A total of 23 classes were on offer, providing residents of all ages and abilities the chance to move more, meet new people and try something different.
The crowd favourite was Bundaberg Pickleball, drawing an impressive average of 29 participants per session as players served up plenty of fun and friendly competition.
Strength and Stretch classes also proved popular, with Elliott Heads and Bargara sessions averaging 21 participants respectively, while Bundaberg Aqua Aerobics and Bargara Line Dancing had up to 20 participants diving in and stepping out per session.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the continued success of Be Active Be Alive highlighted the community’s enthusiasm for accessible, affordable opportunities to improve health and wellbeing while enjoying the social benefits of getting active.
“BABA is a much-loved program that proves time and time again how small, free and accessible activities can make a big difference to people’s health, wellbeing and sense of connection in our community,” she said.
“With another exciting round of activities on the horizon, residents are encouraged to keep their active streak alive and stay tuned for more opportunities to get moving.”
About Be Active Be Alive
Initiated by Bundaberg Regional Council in 2012, the award-winning free parks and pools program was commenced with the help of State Government funding.
The program continues to be developed and refined under Council’s ‘Healthy and Active’ charter to provide an inclusive and free mix of activities across the region’s parks, pools and other venues as required.
