Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging residents to dive into National Water Week this October, with a fun and educational display returning to Bundaberg Library to celebrate the 2026 theme, Water is Life.

Held from 19 to 25 October, National Water Week is a nationwide initiative that highlights the vital role water plays in healthy communities, thriving environments and everyday life.

To mark the occasion, Council’s Water Services team will once again create an interactive display at Bundaberg Library, featuring the ever-popular toilet installation, children’s activities and information designed to help residents better understand the journey of water from source to tap.

Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn said National Water Week was an opportunity to reflect on something many people take for granted every day.

“Water is one of our most precious resources and this year’s theme, Water is Life, reminds us just how essential it is to our health, environment, economy and way of life,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“National Water Week is a great chance for families to learn more about where our water comes from, how it is treated and the simple steps we can all take to conserve it.

“Our library display makes learning about water engaging for all ages and I’m sure it will once again make quite a splash with visitors,” she said.

Mayor Helen Blackburn said National Water Week was also an opportunity to recognise the dedicated Council staff who worked around the clock to deliver safe and reliable water services to the community.

“Our Water Services team is committed to providing safe, high-quality drinking water to homes and businesses across the Bundaberg Region every day,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“National Water Week is a timely reminder of the important work that happens behind the scenes to keep this essential service flowing.”

“Residents can play their part too by using water wisely and being mindful of what goes down household drains to help protect our water and wastewater networks,” she said.
