As the transformation of Anzac Park takes shape Bundaberg Regional Council is calling on locals to check their family photo books for a picture of Anzac Pool which could be featured in a memorial element.
As part of stage 1 revitalisation works residents are invited to submit historic photos of the pool that capture its community spirit and significance.
One image will be chosen to feature on a special memorial element within the redeveloped park space – a permanent tribute to the role Anzac Pool played in the region.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said the pool held a unique place in the hearts of locals and its legacy deserved to be honoured.
“Anzac Pool was more than just a place to swim, it was where generations of families gathered and where our community came together in both celebration and remembrance,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“As we look toward the future of Anzac Park, it’s important that we don’t lose sight of its past.
“This memorial will ensure the spirit of Anzac Pool lives on for generations to come.”
Council is specifically seeking photos taken between 1956 and 1975, although submissions from other eras will be welcomed.
Only one image will be chosen for the final memorial.
Submissions are open now and will close at the end of July.
Stage 1 of the Anzac Park redevelopment is expected to be completed in August 2025, with new amenities block to follow in October.
