Magic tap, toilet to spark water conversations

This year’s activities include a pop-up display at the Bundaberg Library featuring a magic tap and toilet designed to spark curiosity and conversation about how water impacts everyday lives.

Bundaberg Regional Council is celebrating National Water Week by encouraging residents to “Bring Water into Focus” and take small, meaningful steps to protect one of our most precious resources.

This year’s activities include a pop-up display at the Bundaberg Library featuring a magic tap and toilet designed to spark curiosity and conversation about how water impacts everyday lives.

The initiative aligns with the national theme, which asks Australians to see water not just as a resource but as a vital thread connecting communities, the environment and future generations.

Water, Waste and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said National Water Week was a timely reminder for everyone to value and protect local water supplies.

“Even though there are currently no water restrictions in place across the Bundaberg Region, every drop really does count,” Cr Bartels said.

“We all have a role to play in preserving our water, from brushing our teeth with the tap off to using water-efficient appliances or watering the garden at the right time of day.

“Small actions can have a big collective impact.”

Council’s Water Services team is encouraging residents to adopt simple water-saving habits, including:

• Sweeping pathways instead of hosing them down

• Turning off the tap when brushing teeth

• Waiting for a full load before doing laundry

• Keeping showers under four minutes

• Using half flush where possible

• Checking regularly for leaks around the home

Cr Bartels said the library pop-up aimed to make learning about water fun and interactive for all ages.

“The magic tap and toilet display are great conversation starters, especially for children,” he said.

“It’s a great activity for the whole family to get thinking about where their water comes from and how to use it wisely.”

National Water Week runs from 20 to 26 October and the Bundaberg Library display will be available for viewing throughout the week.
