Direct from a national fashion runway to Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, see innovative ‘A Wearable Canvas’ designs up close during an exclusive gala event.
The special evening of art, fashion, music and culinary delights at the A Wearable Canvas Gala is part of this year’s Taste Bundaberg Festival.
Set in the inspiring surrounds of Bundaberg Regional Galleries ‘A Wearable Canvas’ exhibition, the event will include a parade of acclaimed wearable artworks, brought together for the first time at A Wearable Canvas Gala.
Guests will also enjoy a curated culinary experience, featuring canapes and bespoke cocktails crafted exclusively for the event by local suppliers.
‘A Wearable Canvas’ was curated by co-directors of the Australian Wearable Art Festival, Wendy Roe and Helen Perry, and features a stunning array of unique creations.
Wendy said the gala offered a rare opportunity for attendees to experience wearable art beyond the runway.
“Guests will enjoy an evening where fashion, sculpture and contemporary art come together within the beautiful gallery setting, alongside great food and conversation,” Wendy said.
“Seeing these remarkable works up close reveals the extraordinary craftsmanship, imagination and innovation that goes into each piece, creating a very different experience from watching them on stage.”
“Our artist talk, by Derby Cross couple Evita Camilleri and Dan Draper, will provide an insight into their creative journey into the field of wearable art – from the first spark of an idea through to the finished artwork.”
The parade will feature striking wearable artworks presented on models within the gallery including two works by internationally recognised Romanian artists, Antoaneta Tica and Oana Rosca, finalists in the 2026 Australian Wearable Art Festival.
“Experiencing these pieces in motion highlights an aspect of wearable art that cannot be appreciated on a mannequin alone,” Wendy said.
“The way the artwork moves, transforms and interacts with the human body, completing the artist’s vision.”
Wendy said she was thrilled to showcase wearable art in Bundaberg.
“Taking wearable art beyond the festival and into regional galleries allows more people to discover this unique art form and celebrates the incredible creativity of artists from Australia and around the world,” she said.
“We hope the gala inspires visitors to look at art, and in particular art on a runway and everyday materials, in entirely new ways.”
‘A Wearable Canvas’ is on display at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery until 10 October.
