The Bundaberg Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), North Burnett LDMG and the Bundaberg District Disaster Management Group (DDMG) are being regularly briefed by the Bureau of Meteorology with regards to the current weather situation.
The Bureau of Meteorology has advised moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast across parts of the Bundaberg and North Burnett regions during Sunday and into Monday. This may result in river level rises for the Burnett River, Kolan River and Baffle Creek from Sunday through to Tuesday and even Wednesday.
Parts of Bundaberg Region and North Burnett Region may experience minor to moderate flooding over the coming days, however based on weather forecasts provided no significant impacts are likely at present.
Minor to moderate flooding is possible at multiple locations along the Burnett River and tributaries over the next few days. This includes moderate flooding at Mundubbera and Gayndah, and minor flooding at Bundaberg. The Bureau cautioned that higher levels may be possible if heavier rainfalls occur.
Moderate flooding is also possible for the Kolan River and Baffle Creek.
While some minor to moderate flooding is expected, impacts of flooding to properties in both regions is not anticipated at this time.
Some areas may be impacted by localised heavy rainfalls, resulting in some flash flooding and road closures. This may impact the ability of transport services to operate as planned, especially on Monday.
Residents and visitors should remain alert and continue to monitor the situation over the coming days.
Weather situation update from LDMG Chair
Bundaberg LDMG Chair Mayor Helen Blackburn said, while forecast rainfall for the region had not eventuated to date, there may still be significant rainfall in store for the Bundaberg Region.
“The weather system is currently tracking south and has moved towards Hervey Bay however there is some modelling to suggest it could shift its trajectory to the north which would result in continued heavy rain for the Bundaberg Region,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“At this stage, based on the Bureau’s modelling, while some minor to moderate flooding is expected we are not anticipating any impacts of flooding to properties in the Bundaberg Region.
“What this means is that we will remain Alert and continue to monitor the situation over coming days and we’re calling on residents to do the same.
“Drive to conditions, avoid floodwaters and take any necessary steps to be prepared.
“Stay up to date with weather warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology and check the Disaster Dashboard.”
