Get ready to kick your heels up at the Waterloo Hall Dance as part of the Bundaberg Region’s Australian Heritage Festival celebrations.

To be held on Saturday 2 May from 5 pm at the historic Waterloo Hall, the night promises to be filled with good music, fun, dancing and community spirit.

We asked event organiser Shirley Galea to tell us all about it.

What are you doing for Australian Heritage Festival this year?

We’re at it again, another big night of live music and dancing at our 115-year old hall!

We are getting together for a night of fun and at the same time celebrating the halls continued presence in our community.

We have beginner line dancing lessons from the Childers Country Line Dancers, a performance by local music marvels ‘Fiddlesticks’, a BBQ dinner, drinks and dessert from the hall bar, and then some of the greatest hits of all time played by “The Other Bloke”.

Not to mention a chandelier of stars and opportunity for a few fireside yarns.

When and where will your event be?

We’re out bush 40 km northwest of Bundaberg, but well worth the fuel ration.

Find us at 122 Waterloo Hall Rd, Waterloo.

How can the community get involved or attend your event?

Tickets are limited, so get in ASAP via the online link.

If you’d like to help us with setup or some grandma style country baking, please get in touch on our Facebook page.

Why did you decide to get involved in this year’s heritage festival?

We love to celebrate what this beautiful old hall means to our community and highlight all the history it holds.

What better time than during the Australian Heritage Festival?

Why do you think it is important to preserve and appreciate heritage in the Bundaberg Region?

The hall has been a gathering place for locals since it was built.

It has been an emergency hub during natural disasters and has seen countless dances, weddings, music festivals, Anzac services and community gatherings.

We need to remember the lives and achievements of those who lived in the district before us.

Australian Heritage Festival runs from Saturday 18 April to Monday 18 May.
