Safe disposal of battery-powered devices cuts fire risk

🔥 Got old rechargeable devices sitting in drawers? Now’s the time to clear them out! Local residents can take part in an embedded battery clean-out this March and April. Bring your old devices with embedded batteries to selected Council Waste Facilities for safe disposal - free of charge! Use the link to take you to Council’s website for more information on waste facilities, opening hours and types of devices accepted. If it lights up, makes a sound, moves, or needs charging… it probably has a battery inside 🔋 Think: ✔️ Vapes ✔️ Electric toothbrushes ✔️ Light-up toys ✔️ Bluetooth speakers & headphones ✔️ Smart watches & wearable devices ✔️ Power tools We are not accepting commercial quantities of any devices, nor EV batteries. ⚠️ Batteries don’t belong in kerbside bins. When crushed in trucks or landfill, they can spark dangerous fires, release toxic gases and cause serious damage. These batteries are being collected in special safety-rated drums to prevent explosions and fires. 👉 Time to clean out your cupboards and bring them in to our waste facilities. Never bin your batteries. This initiative is proudly supported by the Queensland Government delivered in partnership with Fraser Coast Regional Council, Bundaberg Regional Council, Gympie Regional Council and North Burnett Regional Councils as part of the Wide Bay Burnett Resource Recovery collaboration. The Wide Bay Burnett program opens on 2 March and closes on 26 April 2026. #QueenslandEnvironment
