Craig Holden is happy to advise that the amazing week of Winter weather will continue over the weekend, perfect for a cold morning dip.
Weather
Well, it has been a sensational week of beautiful Winter weather, with cold mornings and nights, but the days have been sunny and mild.
As we now look ahead to today and then across the weekend, we can expect more of the same too, with plenty of sunshine and blue skies, more cold mornings and nights, but temperatures will become quite mild during the day – and even creep up towards around 23 degrees on Sunday.
Today’s winds will continue from the S/SW to SW at 10 to 15 knots, before they ease back in strength for the weekend.
Tomorrow will bring SW to S/SE winds at around 10+ knots during the morning but then ease back to 5 to 10 knots through the afternoon and then Sunday will bring S/SW to S/SE winds at around 10 knots.
Swimming
Swimming conditions have also been absolutely sensational during this past week, as you would expect with these light offshore winds, but the chilly outside temperatures have certainly brought about a drop in the number of customers in the water!
As we now look ahead to the coming days, there is nothing but great news for beach goers too, with more light offshore winds (turning light onshore in the afternoons), more sensational swimming conditions, and more mild daytime temperatures – especially on Sunday.
The early mornings will be chilly, but at least the water temperature will be warmer than the outside temperature at that time of day….
The best time for a swim will be around mid to late morning when the tide is high and the sun is shining, whilst all beaches will provide great swimming conditions for swimmers as well.
Please check with the Lifeguard on duty, read any safety signage or messages, AND most importantly please swim only at patrolled beaches, only between the red and yellow flags, and only during patrol times – remember, if we can’t see you, we can’t save you!
Beach patrols
Today and weekdays – 9 am to 5 pm at Agnes Water only
Saturday and Sunday – 9 am to 5 pm at Kelly’s Beach and Agnes Water only
Surfing
Absolutely no wave action has been found across local beaches during the past week with typical winter, flat and calm conditions for the entire week.
The forecast for the coming days is almost identical as well, so I am going to suggest we are set for more of the same until at least Sunday too, with only the slim chance of a few very small, clean waves that may entice a longboard or SUP into the water. Good Luck.
For the SUP and Ocean Ski paddlers, there is not much wind about to entice you out for a super-fast downwind run, but for those looking for calm and gentle conditions to enjoy on the ocean for a leisurely paddle, you will have plenty of options over the coming days!
