Roads and Infrastructure (rural)

Bundaberg Regional Council is delivering essential transport infrastructure improvements across the region as part of its 2025-2026 Budget.

A range of priority projects have been earmarked for the new financial year, aimed at improving road safety, extending the life of key assets and delivering better connectivity for the community.

Roads and Infrastructure (rural) portfolio spokesperson Cr Bill Trevor said Council’s investments were strategically prioritised to deliver safer, more efficient and more resilient infrastructure across the region.

“We know roads and pathways are top priorities for our residents and we’re investing accordingly,” Cr Trevor said.

“This budget outlines practical, targeted projects that address deteriorating infrastructure while future-proofing our transport network.

“We’re focussed on delivering the essentials, so our $33.4 million roads investment program prioritises renewal of deteriorated assets and cost-effective safety improvements whilst attempting to maximise the amount of grant funding received by Council.”

Key projects funded in the 2025/26 Budget include:

McIlwraith Road – Pavement rehabilitation and safety improvements

This critical upgrade will address the deteriorating condition of McIlwraith Road, improving safety and road performance for all users.

This project will be proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s 2024-27 Works for Queensland program in association with Bundaberg Regional Council.

Renewal of floodway South Littabella Road

Council will commence construction to replace deteriorated infrastructure along South Littabella Road.

The existing floodway contains two damaged culverts.

This renewal project will restore the floodway and provide a safer and more reliable route for all road users.

This project will be funded under the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program.

Wallaville Burnett River Bridge – Structural rehabilitation

Due to visible deterioration, the Burnett River Bridge currently has a 35-tonne load limit, single-lane restriction and reduced speed to prevent further damage.

This project will focus on vital structural repairs to restore its functionality and safety for freight and community use.

This project will be funded by the Queensland Government’s 2024-27 Works for Queensland program in association with Bundaberg Regional Council.

The 2025/26 Budget demonstrates Council’s continued focus on delivering long-term value through needs-based infrastructure renewal.

  1. I think one of the councillors need to get out on a mobility scooter and travel on the pathways to see how bad they are even just from the hospital up to sugar land I find that they are a disgrace and to step on some of the street crossings bill can contact me any time via email as I find he is a very reasonable man as I have worked for him in the past
