Residents are being reminded to check Bundaberg Regional Council’s online Bin Day Finder to confirm new collection days across the region.
Bin day changes will take effect from Monday 20 October and will impact a number of suburbs as Council responds to the needs of the growing population.
Water, Wastewater and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the changes would help improve efficiency and sustainability.
“We’ve experienced strong growth in new waste services over the past few years, especially in coastal areas,” he said.
“By spreading out the collection zones we can reduce travel times, lower fuel use and improve our recycling recovery through more consistent deliveries to our Material Recovery Facility.”
Due to this major service update, collection times are likely to vary across the region even if that household’s collection day is not impacted.
Residents whose bin day will change will receive a letter in the mail advising of the change.
Cr Bartels suggested that anyone who has a new bin day could set a reminder on a calendar or phone the day before the first new collection.
“This is a simple way to keep on track with these new changes while making the transition process easy for your household,” he said.
Changes taking effect are:
- Parts of Millbank changing to Monday collection
- Parts of Bundaberg West and Thabeban changing to Tuesday collection
- Parts of Kepnock, Ashfield, changing to Wednesday collection
- All Coral Cove and Elliott Heads and parts of Avenell Heights and Kepnock changing to Thursday collection
- All Burnett Heads and Rubyanna and parts of Bundaberg South changing to Friday collection
Recycling Week collection change:
- Parts of Windermere, Qunaba and Bargara changing from week A to Wednesday of week B
- Parts of Avenell Heights and Walkervale changing from week A to Thursday of week B
- Parts of Kalkie changing from week B to Friday of week A
Gin Gin, Childers, Woodgate and Buxton will not be impacted by the upcoming change.
Cr Bartels thanked the community in advance for its patience during the transition.
“We understand these changes can be an adjustment, so we thank everyone for their understanding and patience during this period,” he said.
