Help celebrate community groups like Brave Brothers

Brave Brothers concentrates on suicide prevention, domestic and family violence and men’s health advocacy.

When Brave Brothers was named the 2025 Australia Day Community Group of the Year, founder Dave Facer said the recognition was both humbling and motivating for the team behind the scenes.

Bundaberg Regional Council is once again calling on locals to help celebrate the unsung heroes of the region by nominating someone for the 2026 Australia Day Awards.

This year’s Community Group of the Year, Brave Brothers, was honoured for its work in suicide prevention, domestic and family violence support and men’s health advocacy.

Brave Brothers was named the 2025 Australia Day Community Group of the Year.

Here’s what Dave had to say about receiving the award:

You were honoured as the 2025 Community Group of the Year. What was that experience like?

We were lucky enough to be nominated last year and we’re so proud to have received the award. I tend to carry it around with me everywhere I go these days and we share it around our groups as well. We’re really proud to be recognised by our community for the work we do.

Tell us a little bit about Brave Brothers. What does the group focus on?

Brave Brothers concentrates on suicide prevention, domestic and family violence and men’s health. We really like to think that we listen to men and listen to our community before it’s too late. It’s important for people to get involved and start nominating other groups and people.

How has the award helped your organisation?

This award has helped us [to] raise our profile and we’ve been encouraged by people to continue what we do. It’s been really important to motivate the people doing the great work and volunteering for us but it’s also helped put us in the forefront of people’s minds.

Brave Brothers founder Dave Facer.
