The 2025 Christmas Appeal has raised a total of $68,000 to help more than 1000 Bundaberg families this Christmas.

The Bundaberg community has once again come together with compassion and generosity with a total of $68,000 in hampers and gift cards distributed through the 2025 Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

Through sponsorship, donations and fundraising events, a total of $75,200.24 was raised which exceeded the requirements of the partnering charities and Council-run Childers and Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centres.

The remaining funds will kickstart the 2026 Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.

The $68,000 distributed to seven charities and organisations will provide 930 hampers and 225 gift cards to Bundaberg families needing extra support this festive season.

Mayor Blackburn said the success of the campaign showed the strength of Bundaberg’s community spirit and the importance of planning ahead.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of our sponsors and community, hundreds of families will feel supported this Christmas,” Mayor Blackburn said.

“It’s more than a hamper – it’s a reminder that people are not alone and can share in the joy they deserve, even during what can be a tough time of year.

“While we’ve met the need this year, we know the demand is always there – and always increasing – which is why we’re laying the foundations for next year’s campaign to ensure support continues.”

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal partnering charities and organisations handed out hundreds of hampers and gift cards ahead of Christmas.

Major sponsor Auswide Bank played a key role in the success of the appeal.

General Manager Damian Hearne said it was incredibly humbling and rewarding to be part of something that has made such a difference for local families.

“Knowing that more than $75,000 has been raised to support people in our own community reinforces why initiatives like this matter so much,” Damian said.

“For families receiving hampers and gift cards it can mean less stress, fuller tables and the ability to enjoy Christmas moments that might otherwise feel out of reach.

“For the broader community, it strengthens the sense of connection and reminds us to look out for one another.”

Damian said Auswide Bank was proud to stand alongside Council and the local businesses, volunteers and donors who make the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal possible each year.

“Their dedication has a lasting impact well beyond the festive season,” he said.

“We’re grateful to play our part and to support an initiative that truly reflects the spirit and generosity of the Bundaberg community.”
