Work along Maynard Street is set to continue with Bundaberg Regional Council undertaking new road safety upgrades at the Maryborough Street intersection.
The project will include the construction of asphalt raised safety platforms which are designed to slow vehicles as they approach the roundabout and improve safety for all road users.
Construction activity and closures at the intersection will take place on Sunday evening.
Roads and Infrastructure (Urban) portfolio spokesperson Cr Larine Statham-Blair said the works were focused on reducing the risk of crashes and creating safer conditions for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.
“This intersection is an important connection for the community and these upgrades are about making it safer for everyone who uses it,” she said.
The project will continue into March as night works to minimise impact on road users.

Black Spot Program funding supports works
Funding for the project has been provided through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, which targets locations where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring.
The works follow recent safety upgrades underway at the nearby Maynard, Kensington and Miller Streets intersection.
Those improvements include the construction of a concrete traffic island to prevent vehicles entering Maynard Street from Kensington Street.
Additional upgrades in the area also feature a dedicated right-turn lane from Maynard Street into Miller Street, a raised section of road to slow vehicles through the intersection and a new pedestrian crossing on Miller Street.
“These combined upgrades demonstrate Council’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety across the region,” Cr Statham-Blair said.
“Each improvement plays a role in making our streets safer and more accessible for the whole community.”
Bundaberg Regional Council thanks residents and road users for their patience during the works and encourages motorists to take care and follow traffic control directions while construction is underway.
