Residents are being reminded that most waste facilities are closed on public holidays including the upcoming four-day Easter weekend, but household bin collections will continue as normal.
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Bundaberg Waste Management Facility, located on University Drive, will be the only facility operating between Friday 3 April 2026 and Monday 6 April 2026.
Water, Waste and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said the public holiday arrangements ensured continuity of service.
“Managing waste and recycling is a year‑round job and our team is committed to delivering efficient services that support sustainability across the region,” Cr Bartels said.
“By only having our main waste management facility open for the Easter weekend and on public holidays, we feel that we can strike a positive balance between maintaining services for our community and giving our dedicated workforce more opportunities to spend time with friends and family.”
Cr Bartels highlighted that, with Easter coinciding with the first weekend of the month, Booyal and Buxton waste facilities would instead open on the Sunday following Easter, preventing a prolonged break for the community.
On Sunday 12 April 2026 Booyal waste facility will operate from 8 am to 11 am and Buxton waste facility will operate from 1 pm to 4 pm.
“Kerbside bin collections will continue as normal, so there will be no impact on household bin collection services.”
He said while kerbside collections would continue as normal on the public holidays of Friday 3 April 2026 and Monday 6 April 2026, residents were advised to place their bins out the night before these collection days to ensure timely service.
All recycled goods shops will be closed on 3, 4, 5 and 6 April 2026. Learn more about Council’s waste and recycling facilities information and opening hours at Bundaberg.qld.gov.au.
