Two mature Norfolk Island pines located on the oceanward side of the Woodgate coastal pathway will be removed this week following recent assessments of their health and long-term condition.
Arboricultural inspections have confirmed the trees are in irreversible decline, with their condition expected to continue deteriorating over time, with no prospect of recovery due to the onset of internal decay.
While Bundaberg Regional Council is committed to the ongoing care and retention of trees across the region wherever possible, proactive management is necessary to minimise future risks and ensure the ongoing safety of the public and nearby assets.
In this instance, removal is considered the most appropriate long-term management option.
During the works, pedestrians will be redirected to an alternative route via the esplanade pathway.
The nearby shelter shed will also be temporarily closed and cordoned off to create an exclusion zone while works are carried out.
Council thanks residents and visitors for their understanding and cooperation during these planned works.
