Residents can look forward to an even more reliable and resilient water supply as upgrades to the Bourbong Street Reservoir progress.
The project, which began in September 2025, is focused on upgrading a key component of the region’s water infrastructure with the reservoir able to hold a capacity of nine million litres of water, ensuring a reliable and continuous supply to the expanding network.
Waste, Water and Renewable Economy portfolio spokesperson Cr Jason Bartels said after routine internal inspection, Council identified issues with the reservoir’s roof and supporting structure that could have posed a risk to water quality over time.
“Since then, crews have removed the old roof, developed a modern replacement design and fabricated a new structure using durable materials,” he said.
“Installation of the new roof began in early March 2026 and is now well underway.”

Importantly, Cr Bartels said the upgrade had been completed without any disruption to the community.
“Alternative water infrastructure has ensured that households and businesses continued to receive a consistent supply throughout the works,” he said.
The Bourbong Street Reservoir, originally built in the mid-1970s, has long supported Bundaberg’s water network.
The new roof will meet modern standards, improve ventilation and help extend the life of the reservoir for many years to come.
The project is on track for completion in early May 2026.
