An exciting new development has been approved for Kepnock in the next stage of expansion for this emerging commercial hub.

Sited within the Kepnock district activity centre zone, the plan includes retail spaces, food outlets and a service station.

Bundaberg Regional Council recently approved the development application for 12 Santalucia Boulevard, Kepnock, on the corner of Greathead Road and Santalucia Boulevard, bounded by FE Walker Street and Link Road.

According to the development application, the centre is to be completed in two stages, the first stage to include three large showrooms, a hardware and trade supplies store, low impact industry and a food and drink outlet with drive-through.

Stage two will include a service station, another food and drink outlet with drive-through and a carwash.

To serve customers and employees across the site, there will be 268 car park spaces and 30 bicycle parking spaces.

Primary access to the centre will be from Santalucia Boulevard, with an additional left-in/left-out only access on Greathead Road.

Landscaping will cover 17% of the site area, including a vegetation buffer along FE Walker Street boundary to soften the appearance of the buildings from the street.

As part of the development approval, Council has restricted hours of operation for the food and drink outlets to 5 am to 10 pm, and for the showrooms and hardware supplies from 6 am to 9 pm.

Council added further conditions for the provision of a detailed landscape plan and a revised path for articulated vehicle access to the service station.

The development approval means building work can commence on the site, which had been levelled and had retaining walls constructed under an earlier development approval that had lapsed.

  1. oh great just what kepnock needs, more retail and traffic. Love the restrictions theyre just about 24 hours.Surprised a coles isnt being banged in there. We already fought a battle that we lost to stop the hardware centre from being there, they went bust. Doesnt matter no one asks the longer standing kepnock residents anything anyway. The 10 percent of new southerners love it, its like being back home to them in the big city.

  2. It’s a shame we can’t build faster Kepnock Town Center was first talked about in the town plan in the 90s by Nita Cunningham & design complete in 2003. This has taken a significantly large amount of time & always included the shops that are currently present. I don’t know were that stuff about masters hardware came from it was never mentioned even 1 time.

  3. A significantly large proportion of our residents own property. It’s not just the southerners that are benefiting from development we are going to be getting substantially richer from this activity. It’s likely also to late for our kids to move away to Brisbane anymore they need for us to expand so we can accommodate them building or buying there own accommodation here.

The south east coroner has no space even the northern cities like Townsville & Cairns have no space. It’s also likely that people who were originally from our region who left will return especially if they have not brought a property yet. It was always the case that a good chunk of people who left for Brisbane came back here even before the housing shortages. The south east corner was always to expensive for the times to be actually worth it.

  4. @Steve A better spot for Coles would be Bundaberg East near the KFC. Kalkie is likely going to develop ahead of Kepnock at this rate. This would give coles there own space away from Woolies & Aldi likely with better trade. Would also help reduce traffic problems from having 3 supermarkets in the 1 area.

I’m surprised we haven’t got a second Pizza Hut myself…

  5. Sell up your properties in the boomed Bundaberg and use the money to move to bigger cities with better opportunities if you are younger or cheaper locations with more availability for retirement if you are finished with having to work.

The housing boom is our key out of here.
