Bundaberg Regional Council’s Be Active Be Alive program is back, bringing an exciting mix of free activities to parks, pools and community venues across the region.
After attracting 960 participants to 89 sessions in round one earlier this year, the popular program returns with even more opportunities to get active.
Whether you’re an outdoor adventurer, a water lover, a sweat-aholic or simply keen to try something new, there’s an activity to suit every age, ability and energy level.
Ready, set, game on
Wheelchair basketball is a fast-paced, adaptive team sport modelled after traditional basketball for people with physical impairments that prevent running, jumping or pivoting. Players use a specialised sports wheelchair featuring slanted wheels for greater agility.
Pickleball is a paddle sport mash-up of tennis, badminton and ping-pong that’s easy to learn and perfect for all ages. The smaller court size makes it social, accessible and a great way to get moving – no experience needed.
BounceFit table tennis blends table tennis skills with simple movement activities to boost agility, coordination and mobility. With bats, balls and even a robot pong machine, it’s a social, low-pressure way to get active and laugh along the way.
Fitness on your terms
Chair yoga is a gentle style of yoga that modifies traditional poses so you can perform them while seated in a chair or using it for support. It’s ideal for people with limited mobility, those recovering from injury, or anyone looking for a low-impact way to build strength and flexibility.
Les Mills RPM cycling class puts the pedal to the metal with an energising indoor cycling workout where you control your own intensity. With motivating music, hill climbs, sprints and flat riding packed into an express 30-minute session, you’ll be spinning your wheels in the best possible way.
Strength, sweat and stamina
BoxFit is inspired by boxing training and delivers a cardio blast with skipping, drills, footwork and core work. It’s functional fitness with a punch. Attendees are encouraged to bring cotton glove inners if possible.
HIIT circuit keeps you on your toes as you rotate through a variety of exercise stations targeting strength, resistance and cardio. It’s high energy, high variety and guaranteed to get the heart pumping.
Move with nature
Into to kitesurfing gives participants the chance to take flight with a trainer kite while learning the basics of wind sports. It’s uplifting, beginner-friendly and a breath of fresh air.
Canoeing invites you to paddle your own path through the region’s beautiful waterways. Along the way you’ll build upper-body strength, improve balance and enjoy a healthy dose of nature therapy.
Making waves in fitness
Pool-ates (aqua pilates) takes traditional pilates into the pool for a low-impact workout that’s kind to your joints while still delivering plenty of core-strengthening benefits. It’s all the burn, without the bounce.
Aqua aerobics (high intensity tabata) turns up the splash factor with short bursts of high-intensity exercise performed in the water. Using natural water resistance to challenge your body while reducing impact on your joints, it’s proof that fitness can make a real splash.
