Bundaberg Regional Council has secured funding to continue its popular Neighbourhood Centre barbecues, ensuring residents in Gin Gin and Childers can come together regularly in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The initiative, supported through Foodbank’s Feeding Queensland Kids grant, will deliver $3,000 to each of the community gatherings.
Community, Resilience and Connection portfolio spokesperson Cr Tracey McPhee said the free monthly events provided more than just a meal.
“These barbecues create a space where people can connect, share conversations and build meaningful relationships,” she said.
“By reducing social isolation and fostering a sense of belonging, they play an important role in strengthening community wellbeing.”
Food for the barbecues is sourced locally, supporting local businesses and reinforcing a strong sense of community connection and pride.
“This funding allows Council to continue creating those opportunities for connection while also supporting those doing it tough and backing our local businesses,” Cr McPhee said.
The next Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre barbecue will be held on Thursday 30 April from noon.
The next Childers Neighbourhood Centre barbecue will be held on Thursday 4 June from 11.30 am.

This is fantastic news! It’s great to see the Council supporting these neighbourhood centre barbecues. They really do offer a welcoming environment for residents to connect, and that kind of community engagement is so valuable.
