Have your say on flights – win a $500 voucher

Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging residents to complete a short community survey to help shape the future of air travel in the Bundaberg Region.

The survey is designed to better understand how locals travel, where they fly and their experience when using Bundaberg Regional Airport.

Tourism, Airport and Information Technology Services portfolio spokesperson Cr Steve Cooper said community participation was critical to demonstrating the region’s aviation potential.

“Council regularly engages with airlines to attract new and expanded air services, however airlines require detailed passenger information to assess the viability of potential routes,” Cr Cooper said.

“Strong, local data helps us speak the same language as airlines and clearly show the demand that exists in our region.

“Passenger insights are a key piece of the puzzle in showing route viability and attracting new services.

“Your participation in the survey will strengthen Council’s ongoing advocacy for improved connectivity,” he said.

Insights gathered from the survey will help inform future flight route opportunities, airport services and general passenger experience improvements.

Council has engaged Lime Intelligence, a specialist aviation consultant, to conduct passenger research and assist with route business case development.

Survey results will help identify:

  • Where residents currently fly
  • How often they travel
  • Alternative travel methods used
  • Feedback on the airport experience

The survey takes three to four minutes to complete, and participants can enter the draw to win a $500 flight voucher.

Community participation is essential in demonstrating local demand and ensuring Bundaberg Airport continues to grow with the region.

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey here.

  1. Flights are way too expensive for a 40min flight to Brisbane. We want flight direct from bundy to cairns and to rocky and to Townsville and Mackay.
Flying to Brisbane then getting on another flight just to fly past bundy again to go north is ridiculous. Plus more flights.
Also having a cafe that opens all day while flights are landing and departing. Maybe also sell some
    Bundy merchandise

  2. It is disappointing that our family can’t travel from Melbourne to Bundaberg frequently to see Family by Air due to the exorbitant cost of Air Fares. Prior to the Budget Carrier folding a Air Fre was approx $175. To do the same trip now you have to take loan out.

  3. Bundaberg Regional Council is encouraging residents to complete a short community survey to help shape the future of air travel in the Bundaberg Region. where do we find the survey?

  4. Hi
We certainly have to do something with flights from Bundaberg.
I think if qantas and links could have a direct route to and from Sydney, that would make a huge difference. Also, reducing the cost of flights from BUNDABERG TO Brisbane. It means people could see there family more often.
I’m a pensioner and can’t justify that leg anymore. My family can’t afford for a family 4 to come up as the extra leg from BNE IS RIDICULOUS.

  5. Sadly the cost of flying from Bundy to Brisbane is well beyond a lot of people’s means and catching the train is nearly impossible as they are virtually fully booked by the time they arrive here. Also the difference in the time makes a huge difference for people who have to travel to Brisbane for specialist appointments. You can easily make it if you fly but more often than not when taking the train you have to travel the day before to make the appointment on time.

  6. Would be great if we could get reasonably priced direct flights from Sydney and Brisbane to Bundaberg. Melbourne to Bundaberg would be a bomus. we are so cut off here and cant afford the fares as they are now.

  7. I would love to see flights to Mackay it is ridiculous, l would utilise this one many time but at this stage l have to fly to cairns or Brisbane

  8. I would like to see Direct Affordable Flights to Sydney and Melbournne from Bundaberg, Please. Flights to Cairns would also be Great. Thank You.

  9. We definitely need direct flights to Sydney and Melbourne my family live in both and so much more cost effective. Awesome when bonza was around and plane was always full.. Bundy is bigger than hervey bay and they have direct flights its ridiculous. They need to wake up and listen to people.

  10. Direct flights from Melbourne to Bundaberg were fully booked when Bonza was operating. Bundaberg is rapidly growing in population and has need for direct flights to Melbourne and Sydney. Hervey Bay flights to Melbourne and Sydney are fully booked. The same demand applies for Bundaberg .Personally my family and I travel to Melbourne from Bundaberg approximately 6-8 times per year.

  11. Flights are too expensive to fly from Bundy to Brisbane. I always go by train. Great fares, beautiful scenery. My family is in NZ so I cannot afford to fly and then fly again. My visiting family now fly to Brisbane then Tilt train to Bundy. I also think the eating, drinking amenities are really not up to today’s needs. We need to have more than a cold sandwich and a tiny bottle of wine. It needs a separate cafe type area for this. More local crafts and promotions on view and for sale.

  13. There have been many Airlines Tried to operate in and out of Bundaberg over the years
however they have failed .In my view they have failed due to the size of the Aircraft.
Council would remember the start up Of Sunstate Airlines which started with two 19 seat
aircraft operating Brisbane Bundaberg Brisbane then expanded Brisbane Gladstone Brisbane
Further Aircraft were obtained and services increased Brisbane all Port to Cairns and Return
As the Airline grew additional services from Brisbane to Newcastle and return then western Queensland ports. The aircraft were the Shorts 360 Although these Aircraft were not pressurised they were always flying not sitting on the ground waiting on Parts.AS you all know
Sunstate Airlines became Qantas Link so my suggestion is not to have to have such large Aircraft to start with then build up the size when the market grows .Its very difficult to fill many seats but smaller Aircraft could be the answer.Maybe Government could help with part
of the fares to start this required service to Bundaberg and beyond

  14. the fare from Bne to Bundy is ridiculous, ned kelly had a gun when he tried this rip off and they hung him, when virgin flew here you could sometimes get flights for less than 100, for a 35 min flt in a dash 8 ,150.00 should be the absolute max, it is also worth noting whenever qts has specials on flts Bundy is never included, we travel to brisbane several times a yr for medical and other reasons the train is a 5 hr test of your patience, we need a reliable cheap flight a lot of us are pensioners and cannot afford the current prices.

  15. Hi,
If on an International flight and need to get to the domestic airport in Brisbane coming in after 6 :30 PM, it’s impossible to catch the last flight to Bundy at 7:10 PM. We need a later flight into Bundy from Brisbane like departing at 8:30 PM to arrive at 9:20 PM. Please do that.

  16. Having direct flights North & to major East Coast locations would be beneficial. Time constraints & trying to link connecting flights is a huge problem.

  17. I have flown over the last two years from Bundaberg six times at exorbitant cost. I have then flown on to Melbourne. Victoria and Launceston, Tasmania and other destinations. The cost of these other flights were less than the Bundaberg Brisbane leg. My cost in flying Brisbane to Perth was just over $640 and the cost of flying Bundaberg Brisbane return was $550 on a flexi fare. When I can, I travel by train to Brisbane to do business or see events. If flying onto another destination it can result in overnight costs in Brisbane as the first flight out is around 8 to 9 am. With the budget airline my return airfare to Melbourne return was $257. It is grossly unfair that people living in regional Australia, being serviced only by small aircraft, pay such exorbitant landing fees at major airports. This posts additional costs on regional airlines that effect their costs and then inhibits regional travelers’ for using a fast and efficient service to a capital or major regional hub. Needing to fly from Bundaberg to Brisbane to then fly north again is ridiculous. My relatives love to visit especially in the winter months. The inability to fly at a reasonable cost via Brisbane or direct to Brisbane hinders our tourism.

  18. Flights are way too expensive to fly from Bundaberg to Brisbane to catch another flight to Sydney. It is far cheaper and faster to drive to Hervey Bay and catch a direct flight to Sydney.
It’s sad that a place as big as Bundaberg you cannot fly direct to Sydney and at a reasonable price.

  19. Plane flights are too expensive…..then, when another optional flight starts, then the Qantas flights drop there fees to Brisbane and other places…..THEN the new flight company walks away as it cannot keep up with the discounted Qantas flights….there has to be a way that the Bberg City Council can retain a new flight company to Bundaberg…..if the fees are fair, may the both Companies will stay with Bundaberg….note, that flights from BNE to SYDNEY are fair and they have many flight companies…..we get just 2 flights to and from BNE and everyone will be happy especially the passengers…..OR each flight company could flight at different times all day.

  20. Where is the survey link? I was speaking with a travel agent and both agreed Bundaberg Airport was the most unfriendly of all visited during overseas holidays. Would love to fly to Brisbane for appointments, but way too expensive for the average person.

  21. Time to a) move the airport further out of town eg Clayton area where crops are in exports
    b) re direct the approach to the runway to come in over the recreational precinct instead of the ever-closer, ever-lower flight path affecting our lives on the western approach

  22. Flights we would take would be Bundy to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. They have to be reasonably priced, otherwise we would take the car. Train to Brisbane is good if you can get a ticket though every time we’ve booked in the last couple of years, the train has been cancelled or substituted. Bonza was great and always fully booked. Is our runway long enough for bigger planes to land?

  23. Flights direct to Sydney and Melbourne would be great. I fly to Sydney around every two months to see family. Also direct to Mackay and cairns etc. My husband’s workplace fly staff to Mackay monthly and having to go to Brisbane first is time consuming and costly. Businesses could certainly use more options.
Bundaberg is a growing region, the airport needs to grow accordingly.

  24. Flights n
Prices neef to br more practical for such o a short flight.my elderly mom moved here from sys and its way too expensive for family to come visit her .flights return to syd can be $1000.
People csncelled coming to our wedding and we have missed reunions etc because of flight prices. I had to travel to syd 13 times when my mum was ill in syd and it cost me an arm amd a leg. Its not fair for tourism snd if we go on a cruise or international flight the flight to brisb makes ot so expensive. Please sort something out for us

  25. Good morning Lee, the link to the survey can be found at the bottom of the survey 🙂

  26. It’s time for the Airport master plan to be renewed so we can get the runway upgraded to support larger air crafts. 45M wide the whole strip and as long as we can make it without felling the ring road. This would help with more flights possible and more passangers per a larger plane possible.

  27. Flights have always been a problem in Bundaberg.
Always expensive and limited flight paths.
If they were to let jets into the place with affordable flights it would increase tourism and let locals have fair deals

  28. Yeah no… just sell your houses/business and move to Brisbane for the Olympics and to live afterwards selling up in Bundaberg will give you a great deposit and the extra work that Brisbane always has will allow for quick repayments on the home loan difference. Brisbane can fly to just about everywhere you want.
