Childers National Seniors invites local residents aged 50 and over to take part in a relaxed and inspiring day of creativity, connection and companionship.

Designed especially for seniors, the ‘From Pencil to Stone – Making Art, Making Connections’ bus trip brings together art, food and social connection in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

Childers National Seniors volunteer Desley Cowley said participants would enjoy a combination of hands‑on art workshops, shared meals and visits to inspiring local venues throughout the day.

“Participants will have the opportunity to explore drawing, painting and tactile artmaking using natural and repurposed materials,” Desley said.

“Trips like this offer more than just a day out, they provide valuable opportunities for seniors to enjoy companionship, learn new skills, stimulate creativity and support local artists, all while sharing good food and conversation.”

The trip will take place on Wednesday 17 June, departing Childers at 9 am and returning at approximately 3 pm.

Activities include a morning tea and drawing workshop at the Gin Gin Regional Courthouse Gallery, followed by lunch and a creative workshop at Book Boutique Bundaberg.

Desley said no previous art experience was needed, with all activities designed to be gentle, guided and enjoyable at each participant’s own pace.

“The workshops will be led by two professional local artists, ensuring a supportive and engaging learning experience for all attendees,” Desley said.

Artists Larissa Dabrowski and Maryanne May will guide the participants.

The trip has received funding support from a Bundaberg Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) Quick Response grant.

Desley said the funding had played a vital role in making the experience accessible, ensuring more seniors in the community can participate and benefit.

“The day has been made highly affordable, with participants saving over $85.

“The all‑inclusive cost is just $49 per person, covering bus travel, workshops, materials, morning tea and lunch.

“This joyful day out promises creativity, connection and community in a relaxed and friendly setting.”

Spaces are limited and bookings are essential.
