Public asked to keep clear during whale response

A deceased humpback whale has washed ashore at Mon Repos.

A large, deceased whale has washed ashore near Mon Repos Beach, with officers on site managing the situation and coordinating plans for its safe removal.

Bundaberg Regional Council is advising that there is no need for the community to report the incident as relevant authorities, including the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI), are on the scene.

Initial assessments indicate the animal was in poor condition prior to its death.

Council is supporting DETSI with logistics to facilitate the safe removal and disposal of the whale.

Residents and visitors are asked to stay clear of the area while response crews carry out their work and to avoid entering the water at Mon Repos beach due to an influx of shark activity.

Bundaberg Regional Council thanks the community for its cooperation and patience during this time.
