With a rising need each year to supply hampers at Christmas time community organisations like Alive Church share how fundraisers like the Mayor’s Ball can make a real impact for locals in need.
Alive Church, through its community initiative Alive City Care, is one of the local organisations delivering vital support including food relief and crisis assistance throughout the year.
Senior Pastor Joey Ryan said the support received through the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal had allowed the organisation to expand its reach and deliver meaningful assistance to families in need.
“We are unbelievably grateful for the support of the Mayor and the appeal over the last few years,” Pastor Ryan said.
“It means we can go further and wider in our reach to provide food relief for so many Bundaberg families who are doing it tough at Christmas,” she said.
In collaboration with donations from local supporters the organisation was able to provide more than 300 large family hampers and meat vouchers during the Christmas period.
“For some families these hampers meant everything – provision, feeling seen, supported and loved at a time of year that should be a season of celebration,” she said.
Pastor Ryan said events such as the Mayor’s Ball played an important role in bringing the community together to support those in need.
“The Mayor’s Ball is a significant event for the Bundaberg community; it’s an opportunity to gather those who may be in a better position to give generously, to come together and unite in vision and mission,” she said.
“We can’t just wish somebody else would help those in need, we have to come together as a city and combine our resources to be as impactful as possible.”
“I am grateful for the Council who has created this opportunity to motivate generosity and support for our community.”
