New trees are set to be planted at BRAG Park as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the area, replacing two brush box varieties that are being removed following professional condition assessments.
The works, scheduled for Thursday 16 July (weather permitting), involve the removal of one deceased veteran brush box and one juvenile brush box with poor structural form.
Replacement species are still being selected, with Council choosing from a variety of trees that have a long lifespan, are well suited to the site and will continue to provide shade and amenity for years to come.
To ensure the safety of the community , the majority of BRAG Park will be temporarily closed while the removals are carried out.
Mayor Helen Blackburn said renewing the park’s tree canopy was an important part of maintaining safe, healthy and welcoming public spaces.
“Trees are an important part of BRAG Park’s character and we know the community values the green spaces throughout our region,” Mayor Blackburn said.
“While it’s never an easy decision to remove established trees, the veteran tree has died and the juvenile tree has developed poor structural form, making removal the most appropriate course of action.
“We’re committed to replacing these trees with suitable species that will thrive in the location and continue to provide shade and beauty for future generations.”
Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these important works are completed.
