UPDATE: The scheduled upgrade has now been completed and the libraries’ digital services are running as normal.
Bundaberg Regional Libraries will conduct a scheduled upgrade to the Library Management System (LMS) resulting in a temporary lack of access to digital services.
Scheduled to take place on Thursday 11 December, the system will be offline for up to a day with online services like catalogue, renewals, new reservations and e-resources unavailable to the public and library staff.
Members will still be able to visit all Bundaberg Regional Library branches during normal opening hours and physically borrow or return items via the self-loan stations and return shelves.
Please note access to Bundaberg Library will be at the temporary entry point at the rear of the building via Wongarra Street with limited parking available, due to ongoing investigations and the precautionary measures required relating to the awning at the front of the building.
Access to all other libraries will be as normal, please follow Council’s public notice page for updates.
LMS upgrade benefits
Bundaberg Regional Council’s Arts and Heritage spokesperson Councillor John Learmonth said the upgrades were important to maintain the library’s digital management system.
“We are upgrading our Civica Spydus LMS from a Spydus 10 to a Spydus 11 system which is mostly focused on improving the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC),” Cr Learmonth said.
“OPAC is the interface the public uses when searching the catalogue for items and so, while we apologise for any inconvenience caused, the result will be a much better design and user experience.”
Bundaberg Regional Libraries offer a range of digital services through the LMS with benefits from the new upgrade including:
- Grouping of different title records (book, eBook, e-audio, large print, etc.), making it easier to see which formats are available at each library.
- A cleaner, more intuitive design for both staff and public users.
- An improved online catalogue with easier searching, filtering and browsing options for books and resources.
- Simpler account management.
- Better mobile compatibility with the public catalogue and user account pages working more smoothly on phones and tablets.
- Performance and stability improvements including faster load times and more reliable integrations with third-party platforms.
- Support for new functionality that will allow further enhancements in the future.
